The 10,000 Toes Campaign brought warmth and connection to Wahroonga with our much-anticipated annual OcTOEber Fundraising BBQ, hosted at the Sydney Adventist Hospital (SAH).
This family-focused community event marked a significant return after a COVID-19 hiatus, bringing together hospital staff, local businesses, families, and supporters with a shared goal: to raise funds for diabetes prevention and wellness initiatives across the Pacific.
A Day of Connection and Generosity
More than 130 attendees gathered despite the cold winds, demonstrating a true community spirit. The event raised over $2,300, directly supporting the 10,000 Toes Campaign’s vital work, including the renovation of the Solomon Islands Clinic.
Pamela Townend, Campaign Coordinator, expressed her gratitude:
“Despite the cold wind that kept us on our toes to ensure we didn’t freeze, the support from the staff at the Sydney Adventist Hospital, patients and families visiting loved ones, and nearby businesses was very encouraging on such a miserable day.”
Delicious Food and Engaging Activities
Thanks to Sanitarium for supplying their popular ‘Not Burgers’ patties (complete with onions!), attendees enjoyed delicious food hot off the BBQ. A special highlight was the collaboration with Avondale University, whose team cooked up a storm on their portable grill, adding to the day’s excitement.
The event also featured a merchandise stand, a food and cake stall, and an ELIA Health stall, providing information and interactive experiences. Plenty of prizes and giveaways created a fun, engaging atmosphere for families and visitors.
Community and Business Support
Local businesses played a crucial role in the day’s success. Special thanks go to:
- Sanitarium, Coles, and Woolworths for their generous contributions.
- Unique Car Wash Thornleigh also Fox Bakehouse Wahroonga, and The Hair Studio Wahroonga for their support and donations.
Looking Forward
Reflecting on the event, Mrs Townend highlighted the importance of awareness and community engagement:
“Overall, it was a great awareness event that enabled many to learn about the wonderful work the 10,000 Toes Campaign is doing in the Pacific. People gave generously towards the Solomon Islands Clinic, and we look forward to bringing back a report of how the funds are spent.”
The 10,000 Toes team is already looking ahead to next year’s OcTOEber event—with hopes for sunny weather and an even bigger turnout!
