Follow the footsteps of…
Dr Chester Kuma, NEW Regional Ambassador, Solomon Islands.
Welcome back, Dr Chester Kuma!
As a former Chief Surgeon from the Solomon Islands, Dr Kuma grew tired of seeing his people suffer and die from Type 2 Diabetes, so he decided to take action.
Along with Pamela Townend (Campaign Coordinator) and Dr Paul Rankin (Researcher/Writer), Dr Kuma founded the 10,000 Toes Campaign.
Dr Kuma is passionate about helping others, and even during his retirement, he continued working closely with us as we produced numerous health videos.
We admire his passion and drive, and Dr. Kuma has come out of retirement to help us combat diabetes in a new way throughout the Solomon Islands.
Join us in welcoming him back in his new role as our Regional Ambassador for the Solomon Islands as we elevate the 10,000 Toes Campaign under his leadership.
We are immensely grateful for Dr Kuma’s commitment to helping the next generation of Solomon Islanders adopt healthier lifestyles.
Why are they losing their toes?
Dr Chester Kuma explains what is happening to many people across the South Pacific.
Why are they losing their toes and other limbs, and what are the devastating consequences of amputation? Dr Chester also shares crucial information about heart health that could save your life.
“Lifestyle diseases are killing many people in Pacific Island countries annually due to unhealthy diets, lack of physical activity, smoking, and alcohol consumption.
These diseases include diabetes, stroke, heart attack, cancer, and high blood pressure.
Many people in the South Pacific have replaced healthy garden foods—such as nuts, fruits, and vegetables—with processed canned foods, white rice, and bread. These foreign foods contain oxidants that contribute to fat accumulation in the body.
When these fats block blood vessels, people may die from a heart attack, suffer a stroke, or develop cancer.”
