Smiles, Sunshine, and Saving Lives

It was a bright, happy morning at the Village Green of the Sydney Adventist Hospital. Families, friends, and community members came together for the popular 2025 San Teddy Bears’ Picnic. With children laughing and music playing, the event was full of fun, and The 10,000 Toes Campaign was proud to be part of it!

Among many colourful stalls, our team shared our message of hope, healing, and prevention. We offered t-shirts, raw honey, and healthy snacks—all to support our work in the South Pacific.

In just two hours, thanks to the kindness of our visitors, we raised over $600! Every cent goes straight to helping communities in need.

Our Campaign Co-ordinator, Pamela Townend, was at the event and pictured with Brett Goods, CEO of Sydney Adventist Hospital. She talked with families, raised awareness about diabetes, and explained how small actions—like buying honey or a t-shirt—can make a big difference.

“It’s always special to be part of an event that brings families together,” Pamela said. “But it means even more when we know it’s helping save lives.”

A Serious Mission Behind the Smiles

While the day was fun, it also showed a serious problem.

Every 20 minutes, someone in the South Pacific loses a toe, foot, or leg because of diabetes or other lifestyle diseases.

Many of these amputations could be stopped with better awareness, access to healthcare, and early help. This is what drives The 10,000 Toes Campaign. We work across the South Pacific to:

  • Teach about diseases like diabetes
  • Train local health workers to check and help people at risk
  • Provide screening kits and health lessons in remote areas
  • Give hope and healing where there are few resources

The money raised at the Teddy Bears’ Picnic is already helping us reach these goals.
