Dental & Eye Treatments in PNG
PART 3
This is not for the faint-hearted.
During our time running health treatments at the Mega Health Clinic, Dr. Jacob and his remarkable team have been performing life-changing cataract surgeries, restoring sight to those who have lived in darkness. Every 50 seconds, a new life sees the light—thank you, Dr. Jacob, and all who support this vital work, including our dedicated 10,000 Toes Ambassadors who conduct crucial pre-screenings.
This week marks another crucial phase of the 10,000 Toes Campaign, with ongoing screenings and surgeries for dental and eye care. Witness the incredible transformations through before and after photos of our grateful dental patients.
Tears of Joy
We share this heartwarming story of an elderly man who, after a decade of cataracts, regained his sight through a life-altering surgery. His tears of joy spoke volumes about the clinic’s impact.
When Pamela Townend, Campaign Coordinator, looks back on the PNG Mega Health Clinic, she remembers an older man who had lived with cataracts for ten years and was resigned to his condition until the clinic offered him renewed hope for a brighter future.
“When he heard about the mega health program, it was his wife who insisted he go,” she said. “He said that he didn’t have much faith that things would change, and when he saw the thousands of people waiting, he almost gave up hope.”
The man was fortunate to have the life-changing surgery, and afterwards, he couldn’t contain his emotions. “His smile and tears said it all,” said Mrs Townend.
“There were more highlights from the clinic than one could write down, but the cataract surgeries that topped it off for me—giving back sight to people who had not had 20/20 vision for many years.”
“We continue to meet people who do not know they have diabetes. Amputations are starting to take off in PNG, which is catching up to other South Pacific countries that have battled with this problem for much longer.”, said Mrs Townend.
“Not having access to simple health services, like a blood sugar reading or blood pressure check, does not allow people to understand their health needs.” (credit: Adventist Record)
